Hard At Work

babe_car.jpg
I got to work a little on the 71VW over the weekened.

After a eventful mourning at Paul's Dads car lot of moving a shed, I got to work a little on the VW. Paul and his father came over to help life the little bug on its side. Once there I put my babe to work. She seam sealed the underside with prefection. We sanded down the rust flakes and put on some rust converter. After taht we degreased the under side of the tranny.

Thanks to a lot of help from family and friends the 71 is slowly comming together. Next up is to paint the chasse. Aftert that come pulling the motor from the 72, dismantle and put back together again. While that process is in effect I plan to also start on the body work for the bug. Should be lots of fun. A little more time and a lot more money and we should be good to go.

Out With The Old In With The New

So I just became a member of the Volksrod crew and I notice that the intial picts of the 71 were no londer up on the site. I have reposted them here.

A quick update after the jump

Over the weekened my uncle David and I picked up a parts car for the 71 VW project. Its all rusted out but it should give me a good base in which to learn a little of air cooled engins. I am really excited about it and it adds a nice little addition to the junk yard I am starting in the back yard. To go along with the engin I picked up this book to go with it.

Out with the old

In with the new
Upon getting the car home Paul and I welded in the new floorpans that I got from JC Whitney. This was my first experience with a wire fed welder and I burned threw the pans. However Paul was there for the resuce. I have to admit they look pretty good. More support than I thought as well. From what little I know about the pans thus far I would recomend them. After a quick 3M body sealer I think the pans are good to go.

From there I sanded down the flake from the pitted rust and brushed up some Conquest Rust Converter. I really like this stuff. It was like playing with the old color form cars from matchbox. The chasie went from rust, to green, to purple, to black in a matter of min. This will go a long way to helping the car prolong its life.

The next step it to paint the chasie. I am going to go with a chasie black that I can pick up from my local auto paint store. After that I have to figure out how to get the chasie on its side in order to do the same thing to the bottom of it.

It's A Wrap

Since ParkingStickets is finally underway, we decided to do a little marketing. What better way than to do a custom wrap on Paul's Blaza.

It looks good from about 5 feet away but don't get any closer than that :)
