Bug Guts

Moving forward without moving backwards, hopefully. However this all depends on the weld styling of Mr. Paul Reynolds. I have had some trepidation about leveling off the back end of the bug since I purchased it 6 months ago. Trepidation has turned into full fledge tromping, cutting and grinding.

This all took place last night:

I want to keep some asthetics of the original bug there but I also want the car to flow properly. With this I looked to see exactly how the car was "put together." In doing so I saw that it contained two different sets of air vents. The first was the one that gave the back of the VW the bubble look. The second was right under that in which had a slightly less angle that matched the new chop of the car far better. It was quite difficult to cut away the top vent and level it all the way through. The hardest part was trying to go over where somebody else had started. I found the side that had not been touched far better to work on that trying to piece mill it together with someone else work. Granted there is still much prep work to be done such as sanding and grinding (to be honest I am not 100% sure I like the second vent on there either) but I was happy with the progress.

Once I purchase the new firewall I guess it will be welding time. Based on my past experience with trying to weld with a wire fed welder I may just leave it up the the expert. I still would like to learn more, but that will have to be on my own dime since I do not currently have a wire fed welding machine.

Here goes some more picts of the work done last night.
