On the road to Memphis

Note: I am practicing writing. Sorry about the word play. I am seeing if the more I do it, the more it comes naturally. I am really not trying that hard to come up with cleaver stuff I am more letting it stream. This is just a test too see if being lazy and wanting to work on something can go hand and hand. I don't think so but we will see.

Heidi and I took an epic journey through one of American's most beautiful and scenic passageways. From Myrtle Beach to Memphis: There and Back Again. It was a most fun journey with lots of food, spirits, music and (simi) wild beast.

Knoxville, TN was the first leg of our journey. This is where my companion and I meet up with Mr. Pope the Wise. Along with our trusted guide Harley Quinn we rest for a spell, participated in some sporting activities (my step brothers last football game) and partake in some fine food and spirits.

From there we left our trusted guide and headed west through the rollin hills of Tenn. A short stop at Loretta Lynn Kitchen in whence we partake in some tasty grub and left a small trinket behind we the next wondering traveler, we were off.

Memphis was calling and we were answering. Strolling into the heart of downtown after a quick pass by the glory that was to be known as Sun Records we headed farther into the heart of Memphis. Down Bealie Street, through the cobble stone allies, and along the magnificent waterway of the Mississippi Heidi and I had arrived.

Staying in downtown put us within walking distance of the sights and sounds of Memphis. Using the inn as the base of our daily travels Heidi and I ventured to the classic Peabody Hotel to watch the water fowl on parade, found a tasty place for vitals (Big Foot Lodge) and planned out future days ventures.

On day two of the Memphis ventures we found ourselves faced to face with wild animals at the Memphis Zoo. It has to be one of Heidi's favorite things to see and do on vacation. Polar bears are one of the most fantastic creatures I have ever seen in my life. Along with a Sea Lion in which we got to play with, the Polar Bears were part of an North West Adventure series at the Zoo. It was a fantastic mourning adventure before we were to set out for the musical musings of an epic recording studio in America.

Sun Studios is a quant little building on an ordinary corner in Memphis. If you didn't know what you were looking for you would miss it. Launching so many careers in one tiny place, one has to think that this little building once held the epic crystal stone of musical stylings.

Once again the gods of hunger were calling and Topps BBQ answered. Upon filling to the brim we ventured back to the campsite for a bit of rest before we talked the nights adventures.

Down a dark alley lined with garbage cans, paper plates and dead carcass bones lies one of Memphis truly hidden treasures. In the middle of alley lies a dimly lit doorway which leads downwards into Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous. This nationally known BBQ restaurant is home to the dry rub ribs that give way to marking Memphis of the BBQ map. Filling up once again on what has to be the finest BBQ that Memphis has to offer Heidi and I were off across the mighty Mississippi River into Little Rock. Little Rock is home to some sport of greyhound racing. One of my guilty pleasures. Upon winning enough to cover our night's outing Heidi and transcended back to our home-site.

The next day Heidi and I ventured out a little further to the resting place of the King Of Rock & Roll. Graceland is literally a place taken right out of history. Preserved to Mr. Prestley's likings graceland is a mecca to all sorts of fans and freaks. It was an adventure it which you should do once but never again. Filling up once again on some tasty BBQ vitals at Interstate Bar-B-Q & Restaurant Heidi and I were back off to rest up for the nights outings of sport.

Opening day of NBA season is something to be experienced by everybody. This was Heidi's fist time attending a game and she was not let down. Triple OT that ended on a last second shot. Wow! So much excitement Heidi and I ate once again this time at BB Kings restaurant. I skipped out on the BBQ and went for some gumbo.

Memphis was a great place for an adventure. Lots to see and do. However I offer a since of caution to anybody who wants to go there. Memphis is a place in where you will like it if you really want to go. It is not a place to go if you are looking for something special or to go out of a whim. Heidi and I had a want to go. So we did. It was fun but not something we will be doing often.

The return journey was fruitful with the return of our traveling partner Harley Quinn. With a drive through the forest of the Smokey Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway I got to pay homage to past relatives. Heidi and I returned home with new stories to tell, new experiences to relate and better bond between ourselves.

We look forward to our next adventure.
