Caching In

My wife and I are Caching In. We had to fork some cash out to chache in, but so far it has been totally worth it. Last weekended marked our very first Geocache hunt.

Geocaching is just like treasure hunting. The catch is you use the internet and a GPS unit to help you find the little treasure placed all around. And little do "muggles" know, but there are geocahces everywhere. (In my zip code alone there are over 150 geocahces! ) It is loads of fun, changeling and educational all at the same time.

Due to my Apple set-up it took a little longer to get the GPS set up and runnin We decided to go with a Garmin 60CSx for our GPS. It is a little on the high end but hopefully we can grow into it. For our Geocache software setup we went with the Mac based program, MacCaching. Its is free program and so far it looks like it is going to do the trick. From there it was a matter of getting each of the software and hardware to talk to each other, and about four hours latter (and the use of a PC) we were off for our first hunt.

Searching high and low we found 4 out of 6 geocaches we were looking for. Heidi is really good at figuring out the clues while navigating using the GPS, while I go blindly into the woods looking for the treasure. All in all it is really fun and I look forward to going out again soon.

Click on the above links to find out more about Geocaching or if you want to go out with us sometime just him me up. It is a little overwhelming to get started, but once you have you will find out that it is worth it.

Here are a few pictures out our hunts.
