Loosing Touch

I have always been a fan of learning. I also have always admired my father for the amount of stuff he knows how to or can figure out how to do. While I am a man of many talents I do not feel as if I possess the same skill set that my father does. I may know how to work a computer, but I can't rewire the socket that the computer is plugged into. I am one of few that recognizes that my fathers generation knows far more than what my generation knows and some of that knowledge is being lost. I try and attempt to learn new things all the time (for instance I volunteered to help my friend tile his kitchen over the weekended just so I could learn how to do it). I guess Glenn Reynolds over at Popular Mechanics feels the same way. If you get a chance, swing over there and read this article. I really think he hits it dead on.

Back To School

Today I started back. After a three week vacation I am back to sanding and buffing away on cars for Palmetto Motor Sports. While I enjoy it, I decide today that I am not doing any work for a stupid race car. Last term we spent over 80 man hours putting back together a piece of junk 1970 Nova to be raced. Well over break they took it out to the track and before they even completed one lap in the race the driver wrecked the hell out of it. What the fu*k! So I decided if I am going to work on something it it going to be on something that I am going to appreciate and something that I hope others can appreciate as well. However this term it looks to be enjoyable since Paul said that he would help work on some parts for the 71 VW.

Its time to get to work!

Runnin On Empty

Just went for my first jog in a long time and boy am I out of shape. Heidi and have been walking pretty much ever night for the past three weeks. I thought this may help me get into better shape before I started to run. I was wrong, I don't think it did anything for me. My legs are wobbly, my chest is ponding and my muscles don't move.

This sucks, I should have stayed in bed.

A Southern Tradition

One part of being in the south, rasied in the south and/or being a southern is its food. Southern food is a symbol of family, tradition, culture and pride. However - for sometime, I think the south has been loosing its identity, its essence, its flavor. While I have my own ideas in the oven it is a pleasure to see others with the same thoughts.

The Southern Foodways Alliance is an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture with headquarters at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Southern Foodways Alliance documents and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the American South. We set a common table where black and white, rich and poor -- all who gather -- may consider our history and our future in a spirit of reconciliation.

Leading the way in keeping traditions and culture alive it may well be worth a membership. Swing over and check them out, they have movies and stories well worth it.

100,000 Miles And Runnin

My little of VW Jetta hit 100,000 the week before we left for Disney. It was only fitting that I hit the milestone while helping out a friend with a broke down Jeep. My 2003 VW Jetta is fully paid off yet but will be in the next 6 months. I haven't had any problems with it other than general maintaince and tires changes. After I hit the milestone I was able to give it a rest before I start piling on new miles.

Its a good little car.

Prep Work

Heidi and I leave for Disney World on Monday, so for the past week we have been preparing. We have been out geocaching, hiking, and hanging out in the sun - all to get a feeling of what its going to be like in Orlando. But one thing that is for certain anytime I go on vacation the shit hits the fan at work. So I am prepping for that also. I got to get my files, leave directions for others, make sure I prep everybody to the all dealing etc. It was all going fine till today. Product that was supposed to arrive today did not, files didn't get printed and clients have switched plans. Of course this happens on Friday the last business day before I leave. I am going to spend the weekended doing my best to make sure I help from afar and give Keith as much support as I can.

I really hate going on vacation!
