A Southern Tradition

One part of being in the south, rasied in the south and/or being a southern is its food. Southern food is a symbol of family, tradition, culture and pride. However - for sometime, I think the south has been loosing its identity, its essence, its flavor. While I have my own ideas in the oven it is a pleasure to see others with the same thoughts.

The Southern Foodways Alliance is an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture with headquarters at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Southern Foodways Alliance documents and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the American South. We set a common table where black and white, rich and poor -- all who gather -- may consider our history and our future in a spirit of reconciliation.

Leading the way in keeping traditions and culture alive it may well be worth a membership. Swing over and check them out, they have movies and stories well worth it.
