WOW Wee!

It has been lots of firs for Heidi, Memphis and myself. Our first hiccups, our first diapers, our first burps, our first spit ups, our first time outside in a big world, our first car ride, our first time at the house together, our first night alone...there is just too many to list. It has been a fun and rewarding experience for the whole family. Heidi and I are working really well together as a team. From feeding to naps to caring for each other we are starting to figure it all out.

We wanted to say a special thank-you to everybody for all of your thoughts and prayers. It has meant so much to us just knowing that you are there for us. Memphis Addison Pope is a very big part of our lives and she is sure to be for you as well. Thank-you all.

LIVE Blogging - Starting To Push

OK I have to say that Heidi is not your typical mother to be. She is so calm. So here we go starting to push. I guess the next time you here from us Memphis will be here!

LIVE Blogging - 10 at 10:30

We just hit 10cm and fully dilated. No pushing yet, Memphis needs to drop just a bit more. We are going to wait till right at 11 before we start pushing. Memphis could be a border baby. Born either on the16th or the 17th. Time will tell.

LIVE Blogging - Heidi At The Healm

SO I am sitting where with Heidi and she is telling me what to write. She didn't want to type it up herself so my fingers are now her fingers.

Hey guys just wanted to let everybody know that I am doing well. We are very excited and can't wait to share little baby Memphis with you all. Thanks for all of the continued support. Owi that was a contraction. There is a little pressure on my buttock. I feel the baby lower and lower as time moves on. Andre is keeping me occupied by making me watch old Bugs Bunny cartoons on the computer. Once again thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers.

LIVE Blogging - 9cm And Counting

The count down is on. The nurse was checking and said she could see a hand. How crazy! Memphis is a party animal. Throw your hands in air, she is on her way.

They gave Heidi some oxygen for the baby. She looks like Luke after the attack on Hoth. That is a good sign for Memphis, "The Force Is Strong With This One."

LIVE Blogging - UP & DOWN

Blood pressure that is. But it is not that bad. It is just something to talk about while we are waiting. Heidi has a catheter in which is fun. She can pee without leaving the bed. Sounds like something I should try!

Still chatty, just getting tired from the epidural.

Stay tuned.

LIVE Blogging - Epidural

It is in! No pain, but a little chatty. Ha ha ha, Heidi is so happy. The docs are super cool and helping out a lot. Heidi is shaking from the epidural but is doing great.

Lots of people here. Tons of fun.

Hey check us out!!!

LIVE Blogging - Breaking The Water

WOW! That was fast. Currently we are breaking the water. The doc just said that she was 8cm dilated. It was so simple to break the water! The doc is called to give the epidural. Looks like the baby is on the way!!!!!

LIVE Blogging - From The Baby Ward

We are in labor at Grand Strand hospital. Right now Heidi is 6cm dilated and we are waiting. It has been a great experience so far. The next step is breaking the water and then the epidural. Good things are ahead. Can't wait to see baby Memphis. It looks like it will be tonight around 11-12. So we will wait and see. Wish us luck!

Water Logged

What a great weekend. I have been planning a little outing for my father, my and I for about two months now. The whole time I wanted to keep it a secret. To kick start everything I sent an cryptic email to both my brother and father to meet me at exit 447 off of I40 in Tenn. I didn't give them any other directions other than that and the time. Noticing that them may require some special gear for the trip I sent them other email stating to bring a bunch of random stuff to try and throw them off of the what we were actually going to be doing. So when my brother and I arrived at Exit 447 at the alloted time to meet my father they were pleasantly surprised to find out that we were going on a whitewater trip.

None of us have ever been on a white water adventure before so It was a great family experience. I booked everything online at . It turned out perfect. They were a smaller outfitter and it ended up being just us three plus the guide on on own raft. We tackled 3 class four rapids and a few class three as well along the Pigeon River. It really was a great time for the Pope boys to get together and have a little fun.

After returning home on Sunday , I decided to call up Mikey and see if he wanted to take the canoe out for a little bit. After a short stop at the inlet where we experienced our first low tide canoe trip (we were stupid) we headed over to the Intercoastal/Waccamaw. I have always heard of Sandy Island but never knew exactly where/what it was. To sun it up, it is a an island located in the Waccamaw River system that has a little community on it. There is a public school boat that takes kids back and froth from the island to the bus stop as well as waterway taxis that do the same for the islanders. It was a fun trip and we even got to see Brookgreen Gardens back door.

Below is a map of our route.

After the half day on the water we went back to the house and had a little cook-out of hot dogs and baked beans. It was a great little break form the norm and I look forward to doing more on the rivers.

R.I.P. Mr. Octopus

Mr. Octopus passed today.

It was a great adventure for both him and the rest of the Pope family. I have gained must respect for these creatures. Smart, intelligent, playful and curious all wrapped into one. For those of you who had the opportunity to observe Mr. Octopus you know exactly what I mean. (Seeing an octopus in a large aquariums like Ripley's give you no real basis of understanding the uniqueness that these creatures truly possesses.)

Mr. Octopus was a part of the Pope family for over 9 months, a little longer than what expected. Rescued from sea nets off the coast of SC, Mr. Octopus gave us a great adventure in aquatic world. We have learned a lot from the experience and look forward to passing our knowledge onto others in the form of conservation.

Mr. Octopus – You will truly be missed.

Weekend Farmers

I am very interested in the cost of food. Not only from the point of view that I am a consumer of said goods but also form the point of new ways of generating the same amount of food for less. Most say that food cost comes from the shipping from far off destinations coupled with environmental concerns. Food shipping also has a huge impact on the carbon footprint.

There has been a lot of press about grow/eat local. This concept is very appealing to me. While there are tons and tons of ways to do this, urbanites have started to buy small plots of larger land tracks to grow and maintain there own food supply. This is also accruing in large city's on rooftop gardens and city parks. Would this idea be appealing to fellow Horry County citizines? I don't really think so but it may.

weekened_farming.jpg

I have at my disposal about 8 acres of land located off 701 S right outside of Conway. What if I made a urban farming location where people could rent out smaller plots and plat there own crops? Have it where all tools, water, fertilizer are all supplied. Also have on a hand a "real farmer" who could coach folks the ways of growing crops properly. You could charge for the service and make it as easy as possible for people to become "Weekend Farmers." As long as you make the place nice, free of backbreaking work and give growing advice you could make it work. I think people are scared off from the up front cost of equipment, the thought of loosing their crops due to inexperience and actually doing back breaking work. If you supply the knowledge, the equipment and a helping hand people would be more inclined to join up. {You could possibly create it like a co-op where all crops are put into the overall pool of crops and each family gets there own share. (But I haven't thought this idea out fully so I will hold off for now. Too many negative thoughts as far as "Share Cropping" is concerned.)}

Taking it one step further you could also have live stock where each" Weekend Farmer" has his/her own cow, hog and chicken. You would then get the eggs from the chickens and each season get the beef from the cattle and the pork from the pig.

The idea is not that far of a stretch. You already have people renting out horse stables and while this is for recreation the same principals apply except now the recreation is "gardening." You are making it fun, enjoyable, family time and eco-friendly.

What do you think? Would you become a "weekend farmer?"

HOUSTON, We Have WiFi!!!

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Star Music for really coming through in a pinch. They are letting us piggy back on the their WiFi signal for Saturday's CREATE conference. Come to find out they have some great equipment for podcasting needs, mics, mixers, midi to usb all types of stuff.

So make sure you give those guys some love!

$10 Worth Of Pudding

What do I do at night? Cook & Chill, that's right cook and chill. While I wish I had $240.00 worth of pudding, I think $10 dollars should suffice for the banana pudding for tomorrows activities. Not sure what the soundtrack is going to be like for this but I do have a little video to get you in the mood.

Bogged Down

I am bogged down in chicken. Heidi and I are working on prepping 6lbs of rice, 15lbs of chicken, 6 links of smoked sausage and tons of spices. Tonight's festivities are performed to the soundtrack of Gnarls Barkley "The Odd Couple."

It had been pretty fun the past few nights prepping all the food. Tomorrow we will put it all together to have it all in time for the CREATE Conference. The menu looks a little like this:

- 34lbs of pepper vinegar BBQ
- 25lbs of southern chicken bog
- 2 trays of banana pudding
- 2 trays of baked beans

This sounds like a lot but I am actually afraid that it won't be enough. (I am always afraid of this) We have tried to see how many people are planning on attending and right now we have 56 registered. But who really knows. Some people who have registered won't show up, while others who haven't registered will. I guess on Saturday we will find out.

BTW. I haven't ever cooked for this many people in my life!!!! HAHAHAHA

April 16, 2008

So What Are You Doing Right Now?

Funny you should ask.

Right now I am prepping 25 lbs of pork 3 gallons of BBQ sauce, listening to Hot Chip "Made In The Dark," and getting ready for the CREATE conference. I have to go ahead and prep the food for Sat. cause I am going to slow cook the BBQ and the amount I have to do will take forever if I don't do some work before hand. My kitchen right now has 5 slow cookers (aka crock pots) set up at each outlet in the kitchen. Its pretty funny.

Wish me luck. Hope to see you on Sat. that way you can tell me if it is any good.

Its Offical

On Saturday we had our monthly meeting of the Grand Strand Geocachers. During the meeting we went over paperless geocaching, next months big meeting at Bass Pro Shop and picked the official logo for the group. There were some great logo samples and I commend everyone on their entries. When all the votes were tallied up it was your truly that out shined the others. So its official The Grand Strand Geocachers have a logo!

To top off the good news Heidi and I went to eat breakfast Sunday mourning at Plantation Pancake House. This place is great. It is smoke free, has free wi-fi, great food, this cool camera and a geocache. We wanted to get this cache so I had to get my brother Nakia to participate even though he was all the way in Rock Hill! On this particular cache is called a web-cam cache. It order to get credit you have to have someone take a screen capture of you while you are on the web-cam. My brother was more than happy to help thanks to all of the meds he was on. It also let us show off the baby to Nakia, Shara and Elenore.

If you are ever in town go check out Plantation Pancake House and get your friends from back home check you out in real time!

A Good Weekened

Last weekended was great. It all started off with dinner over with our friends, Talwin, Karla and Kari. We haven't hung out since before the holidays so it was a good time to catch up. They have a 6 month old and Heidi and I were trying to get a few pointers for the little bun in our oven! (Thats right folks we are pregnant and due at the end of July!)

On Saturday, the first one that Heidi and I both had off in a long time, we got up a five in the mourning and took off to Orangeburg, SC for the first BBQ cook-off of the year. It rained all the way there and back but that didn't dampen our spirits. The BBQ was great. I judged 6 out of 28 in pull pork, chicken and ribs categories. I think the quality of BBQ cookers has steadily risen over the past year since I have became a judge. Heidi even got to help out being a runner as well as getting to par take in the grazing of all the meats.

On the return trip Heidi and I geocached in the rain. It was extreamly fun. The coolest one we found was a virtual cache in Bowman, SC of a UFO Spaceship house. It was ran down with duct tape on the roof. I do believe that someone actually lives in there! The fence plainly stated, "Official UFO Welcome Center."

space_man_ufo.jpg

Upon making our way back to Myrtle Beach it was straight to the Grand Strand Geocachers meeting. It was a fun time at the bowling alley meeting new friends and hanging out with old ones. I unveiled the logo proposal and it was a hit. We will make a final decision next month. By that time I would like to have have the Grand Stand Geocachers website up and running.

It was good that Heidi and I could spend some time together. We had a blast and look forward to the next time that we can hang out for a few days.

Grand Strand Geocaching

I have really enjoyed geocaching as of late. I have started taking out friends and family with me to see if they would gain interest in my little past time. I have started to set up my own mini-rules within the geocaching world to help me see and explore more. I have even started to place my very own caches!

Last month I attended my very first Grand Strand Geocachers Meeting. I discovered that I already knew a few people who were into it and meet a few new ones as well. During that meeting there was a discussion of coming up with a logo for the geocachers group. Somehow I have carved out a little time to throw something together. I have also made a sticker for the back of my car. I think it really bridges the official geocaching logo with the feel of the Grand Strand. Noting to exotic or cheesy.

gs_geo_logo2.jpg

I have also bought the domain name www.grandstrandgeocaching.com in order to possibly set up a group blog. There was mention of a possible newsletter at the last meeting and I thought that this could serve either in conjunction with a printed newsletter or in lieu of.

The next Grand Strand Geocachers meeting is this Sat at the Little River Bowling Alley. I plan on throwing all of this up for discussion there. However I will have to hustle back from Orangeberg, SC, where I will be attending the first BBQ competition of the year, in order to make it in time. If any of you would like to join in on the get together I would love to have you as my personal guest!

PS I don't think I linked to my profile last time so here it is.

We Made The Front Page

Yesterday Heidi and I did an all day geocaching adventure. While we are still new to the game we found 16 different caches, two travel bugs and had a great time. The total number of caches found now equals 51 which includes multi-caches, traditional, virtual and event cahces. To top off the great day I was just informed that we made the front page of the geocaching website for one of our photos!

"The Money Will Roll Right In"

Taking a quote form one of my favorite Mudhoney songs, it seems as if the Pope farm is doing QUITE well.

A while back I was asked by the Olympic comity of Vancouver if some illustrators from could come and observe the farm. Well it looks like the research paid off.

I am just waiting for my check. I am sure its in the mail!

Check out the cats that designed it here!

Pay Dirt

It seems as if Joel is no the only one is experiencing pay dirt with his farming techniques.

The Pope family was recently approached by Hollywood exects for an acquisition of one of their farm animals. See the beauty in action...

8-Legged Family Memeber

Well it finally happened, I got an octopus. Octopus belong to the Cephalopod family of salt water invertebrates. They have a short life span of about 6 months to a year, but can live much longer. They are a very playful species that carries a high intelligence level. While I am not 100% sure of its species I am checking more and more into it. I have it narrowed down to about two or three particular groups: O. vulgaris, Octopus Bimaculoide and a third varrient. Hopefully the good people over at Tonmo can help me out. The interesting fact about this octopus is that it was caught off the coast of Mcclennanville, SC form a local shrimp boat.

Having an octopus will be very changeling but I think Heidi and I are up to it. I will be sure to keep you informed.

Here are a few quick picts.

Ol' Kentucky

Over the weekend my wife and I got to partake in some good ol' road trip fun. One of my employees got married in my home state of Kentucky, so I thought it would be a great excuse to take Heidi to my home state.

We left after work on Thursday night and drove to Knoxville, TN, were we were able to see my father and Teresa. The next mourning we got up and headed to Kentucky. Louisville is only about 4.5 hours from Knoxville so we decided to take back roads and geocache along the way.

Geocaching was a great way to see and explore things that most people would just pass by. We got to stop by graveyards, a train boxcar dinner restaurant, small towns and dead end roads. It was a great time and ended up taking us all day. The 4.5 hour trip took 7. No worries though cause we got to Louisville in plenty of time to pitch our tent in a field (yes we camped out and it was way cool) and meet everybody at Mark's Feed Store for the rehearsal dinner. From there Heidi and tore into downtown Louisville to see the sights. It is really a great city both during the day and at night.

The next day Heidi and I went exploring Louisville and ended up in the Highlands' section of Louisville. There we found a place called Lynn's Paradise Cafe. It is in the top 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. & Canada Before You Die book. It is a great little place with kittish decor from top to bottom. Not wanting to be late for the wedding Heidi and I headed back.

It was a great little wedding and I know that Scott and Kristen will always cherish it. We did skip out on the reception to head back to Knoxville to hang out with my Pop's a little more.

On Sunday we headed home. It was an easy trip with a little stop off in Hendersonville at Jump Off Rock where we did a little hiking and sightseeing as well pay respects to my Granddad whose ashes are scattered there.

All in all it was a fun quick trip with most of the time spent in the car. I love Kentucky and was very glad to get back to it. Louisville ranks up there pretty high in one of the coolest cities to live in for me. If you ever get a chance go check it out.

Back To School

Today I started back. After a three week vacation I am back to sanding and buffing away on cars for Palmetto Motor Sports. While I enjoy it, I decide today that I am not doing any work for a stupid race car. Last term we spent over 80 man hours putting back together a piece of junk 1970 Nova to be raced. Well over break they took it out to the track and before they even completed one lap in the race the driver wrecked the hell out of it. What the fu*k! So I decided if I am going to work on something it it going to be on something that I am going to appreciate and something that I hope others can appreciate as well. However this term it looks to be enjoyable since Paul said that he would help work on some parts for the 71 VW.

Its time to get to work!

Runnin On Empty

Just went for my first jog in a long time and boy am I out of shape. Heidi and have been walking pretty much ever night for the past three weeks. I thought this may help me get into better shape before I started to run. I was wrong, I don't think it did anything for me. My legs are wobbly, my chest is ponding and my muscles don't move.

This sucks, I should have stayed in bed.

Prep Work

Heidi and I leave for Disney World on Monday, so for the past week we have been preparing. We have been out geocaching, hiking, and hanging out in the sun - all to get a feeling of what its going to be like in Orlando. But one thing that is for certain anytime I go on vacation the shit hits the fan at work. So I am prepping for that also. I got to get my files, leave directions for others, make sure I prep everybody to the all dealing etc. It was all going fine till today. Product that was supposed to arrive today did not, files didn't get printed and clients have switched plans. Of course this happens on Friday the last business day before I leave. I am going to spend the weekended doing my best to make sure I help from afar and give Keith as much support as I can.

I really hate going on vacation!

How To Landscape Your Front Lawn

If weeds ever get out of control and take over your front yard here is a something you can do about it. It takes a little hard work and a small budget but you can make your house look worthwhile again.

First assess the situation.
landscape_005.jpg

Remove all underbrush, weeds and any plants that you don't want to carry to your new look. This takes time and hard work. If you are going to take time to do this do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again.
landscape_004.jpg

Pile it all up and get it out of here!
landscape_001.jpg

Rake and level out the new area. This is important so you can figure how much "filler" you need. It also gives you an idea of what the finished product will look like.
landscape_002.jpg

Go take a break. You deserve it! Go get a newspaper and take off all the old weeds to the dump. While you are out you can go get your filler material as well as any other plants you may want to plant. Your filler material can be pine straw, wood chips or rock. If you figure out how much you need go ahead and add about 25% more. You always seem to under estimate what you will need and nothings sucks more than not being able to finish a job cause you don't have what you need. You will also need a weed guard (black paper cloth) to put down to help stop weeds from growing back.

After your break and when you are done with the newspaper its time to get back to work.

First you will need that newspaper you bought as well as a water hose. Some people skip this step but I don't recommend it. I really hate doing yard work so I try and do it super right the first time. You will lay the newspaper on the area as a blanket to prevent weed growth. I know you just bought a cloth for this as well. Its for double protection. Once you lay down the paper saturate it with water.
landscape_010.jpg

Isn't it pretty? From here lay down the cloth on top of the paper and work your filler material on top of that. Divide it into sections so to work faster and you can see your progress.
landscape_009.jpg

Continue working this way over the rest of your area. If you are adding new plants do this sections at a time. Make sure you give proper spacing and coverage for each type of plants. I choose evergreen plants because they are easily to manage and take little care.

Once completed hose down your area and marvel at your new masterpiece.
landscape_006.jpg

Congratulation. This little amount of work will save you from having to do tons of work in the future. It is also said that it pays for itself 5 tines over on the resell of your house. So have fun and get to work.

Back From The ATL

We're back!!!!

grant_002.jpg

We had such a great time in such a short period. Good friends, food, music and adventure all rolled into such a short period. Lets recap.

Friends:
Got to see Ali and Mark for the first time since the wedding! It is always a pleasure to see friends that are doing so well for themselves. We had a good time just hanging out and meeting significant others.

ali_mark_me.jpg

Food:
Great BBQ was to be had at Fat Matt's BBQ. It is on my top 5 list of BBQ joints. Ribs and chicken is what you get and boy is it tasty. I am working on a review for the new Pit Masters site, so you will get all the tasty details when that site goes live.

fat_matt.jpg

Music:
Our special event was going to see Michael Buble in concert. He is not a musician but an entertainer. It was a really great show at the Fox Theater. About 2 hours of music and dance and comedy all rolled into one. It was a perfect event for our 2 year anniversary. If you ever have the opportunity to go see him, GO!

Adventure:
We tried to pack as much as possible into our short trip. With the Atlanta City Pass we went everywhere that we could.

Georgia Aquarium - It is one of the largest in the world and there were tons of people there to prove it. To be honest its much like the Ripley's Aquarium just with larger stuff. Three items of note: Beluga whales, Giant Japaneses Crabs and Whale Sharks.

World Of Coke: The updated version of a staple of Atlanta, this is one of our favorite attractions. The opening movie was great along with coke ads through time and over 21 different coke products to try from all over the globe.

coke_001.jpg

CNN Backstage Tour: We got to see how the largest cable news channel is ran inside and out

Zoo Atlanta: Mark another zoo off our list. We got to see the new baby panda as well as new baby gorillas. Really fun.

Fernbank Natural History Museum
: Large dinosaurs and the history of man. It was good but far down on the list.

Geocaching: To top it all off while we were out and about Heidi did a little geocaching. It was loads of fun doing it in the city. We got to see a lot of stuff we would have missed otherwise.

The Good Ol' ATL

Heidi and I leave today to go to Atlanta for our 2 year anniversary. I am pretty excited. We haven't been to Atlanta since my friends, Tony & Jill, got married over three years ago. It should be a good trip with us going to the Georgia Accurainum, Zoo Atlanta and a lot more. To top it off I have something special planned for Heidi and I on the 14th. (Its a surprise).

Caching In

My wife and I are Caching In. We had to fork some cash out to chache in, but so far it has been totally worth it. Last weekended marked our very first Geocache hunt.

Geocaching is just like treasure hunting. The catch is you use the internet and a GPS unit to help you find the little treasure placed all around. And little do "muggles" know, but there are geocahces everywhere. (In my zip code alone there are over 150 geocahces! ) It is loads of fun, changeling and educational all at the same time.

Due to my Apple set-up it took a little longer to get the GPS set up and runnin We decided to go with a Garmin 60CSx for our GPS. It is a little on the high end but hopefully we can grow into it. For our Geocache software setup we went with the Mac based program, MacCaching. Its is free program and so far it looks like it is going to do the trick. From there it was a matter of getting each of the software and hardware to talk to each other, and about four hours latter (and the use of a PC) we were off for our first hunt.

Searching high and low we found 4 out of 6 geocaches we were looking for. Heidi is really good at figuring out the clues while navigating using the GPS, while I go blindly into the woods looking for the treasure. All in all it is really fun and I look forward to going out again soon.

Callin All Party People

Besides having to work all weekend I did get the chance to party down. On Friday nite Heidi's friend Jess came down from Greenville and we all went out for a bit. I retired around 12:30 while Heidi didn't call it quits till around three. However the party continued on without us till about 7 in the mourning. Good times all around.

On Saturday nite Paul and I went to Dave Slushers 40th birthday party. It was good to be around a whole new group of people and swap stories of interesting nature. Check out more details here.

Road Trip

Paul and I went on a great little road trip last weekend to pick up the new VW bus. It has been a while since I got to go on a road trip with someone other than myself. Heidi normally has to work and when we do have off together we are always in such a hurry to get somewhere that we don't get to enjoy the trip as well. On Saturday, Paul and I were able to get off the beaten path and onto some some road to enjoy the country side and see a whole bunch of cool stuff. Here is a quick recap.

Paul has a smaller bladder than I so we got to stop more that I normally would. With stopping we were able to discover some things we normally would not have. The first of such instances were finding "BBQ Chicken Cracklins" from Wallace Pork Skins in Florence, SC. Thy were so interesting I wanted to stop by there plant and take a tour, but we will have to wait till another road trip to do so. I wouldn't say go out and buy some, but if you get a chance to try them out do so. The Chicken Cracklins are a bit different and worth the experience.

The second thing we found was this pretty frickin cool hat. Paul saw it and told me I need to go check it out. When I did I was sold. I just had to have it. So have it I did and look forward to sporting it in the near future.

Up the road we went for a little more excitement when we saw a tractor trailer jack knifed in the middle of the road. This caused to go off for a little detour where we saw where all of the South's VW have gone to rest. You can read more about that here.

Next stop on the list was a little old country gas station. At the little country gas station stood an old Dodge roadster with what looked to be a 16 year old kid and his dad out for a ride. It was only fitting for the update of SC with the mountains in the background. Pretty sweet to hear the sweet roar of the engine as it rolled away. This is also where we meet up with the guy to pick up Heidi's new 1970 VW Bus. The guys selling it was a man that seems to find deals on them, buys them in bulk, fixes them up a little and sells them off. Pretty cool guy, plus he used to work for Slush Puppy!

After getting it all tied down and ready to roll Paul and I were off again but it was before too long that we decide to stop by this really cool Antique store in Westminster, SC. The little shop had everything from old coke signs, to oil cans, to furniture, to tractor parts. A pretty nice find on a Saturday afternoon.

The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful with a few missed turns and an unimpressive dinner at a BBQ restaurant. It was a fun trip and I look forward to taking more soon. Maybe Paul would want to do it again sometime?

Runnin On Moonshine

Moonshine represents a true American spirit, interwoven into the fabric of the heartland of the south. While it seems to be a staple among fellow Kentuckians, I have no direct story, tale or reference from ancestral past. I am looking too rectify that.

As of recent I have had this idea to eventually become a farmer. While at its current state I am looking at it from more of a comical manner, but still entertaining the idea as a possibility. I have talked about becoming a farmer deep down South, past the United States borders. Looking at pineapple or coffee or similar products in some remote tropical location is my general idea. I just think that it would be fun to do and real rewarding at the same time.

So what do these two thing have in common? Well not much to be honest. However, the term "green" is tossed around a lot lately. With that is another word, "ethanol ." What is ethanol exactly? If you want to be really simple about it, it's no more than moonshine. Something that has been around for over a hundred years is now seen as a possible source of fuel.

Really!? Now correct me if I am wrong, but didn't moonshine runners use some of the shine to fuel their rides? Isn't it funny how something that used to be illegal could possibly be seen as the wave of the future?

This then lends into me both having my own story of moonshine and becoming a farmer. But to be successful I need to get crackin on it now. Maybe I can talk my Dad into retiring a little early, buying 800 acres in Idaho, and planting some corn. While he gets that going, I'll stick around here build some moonshine runners with Paul and look into ethanol production in Nicaragua.

HaHaHa...The ideas that pop into my head.

PS: Here is a good story to catch up on Moonshine Runners.

"We might blow up..."

"...but won't go pop." As the forth rolled around I thought of how Keith was in India and would not get to partake in the festive nature of the fourth. So Keith this video is for you.

I didn't edit it so the good stuff starts around the 3.5 min. mark. Really good stuff at the 6.5 min mark. (yes that is me with a firecracker in my lap). Good times all around.

By the way this was shot with my Sony Ericsson Walkman Cell Phone!
